Elsie Coppley Starr, 83, of Bethany Road, died Thursday, August 7, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Health – Lexington Medical Center, following a serious illness of one week.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2014, at Bethany United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. David Talbert officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Mrs. Starr was born January 4, 1931, in Davidson County, to Chelsie Lee Coppley and Bertha Cody Coppley. She was a cashier supervisor for the City of Lexington prior to her retirement. She was former church treasurer and a member of United Methodist Women. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bryce Starr who died in 1988; a son, Barry Starr who died in 1991; sister, Carol Kirkus; and brothers, Austin Coppley and Lewis Coppley Sr.

Surviving are son, Paul Starr of Lexington; daughter-in-law, Vickie Starr; grandchildren, Kevin Starr and wife Debbie and Karin Starr; great-grandchildren, Max Bosko, Macie Starr, and Reese Starr; and sisters, Evelyne Swing and husband Bobby, Jonie Myers and husband Roger, Rachel Hamm and husband Jimmy, Betty Surratt and Louise Lookabill, all of Lexington.

Memorials may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, General Fund, 193 Bethany Road, Lexington, NC 27292; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
