Gertrude Almira Sears was born and reared in Whitman, Mass. She was the daughter of Wilson Sears and his wife Grace Almira Cassay (Chapman) Sears. She was usually called "Myra."
During her senior year of high school she married Richard Blackwell of nearby East Bridgewater. They had three daughters and two sons.
After Richard and Myra divorced, she married Roger Walker Horton. They had two daughters. The family moved from Massachusetts to Connecticut and then to Huntington Beach, California. They bought land in Costa Mesa and built a house there. In 1958 they relocated to Phoenix, Arizona.
