He was the widower of Gertrude Almira (Sears) Horton and the son of Harold Marcus Horton and his wife Eva Louise Walker Horton. His first wife was Blanche Elizabeth (Gould). In 1946 he moved his family west and settled in Orange County, California. He removed to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1958.

He was a life-long automotive mechanic, spending most of his career in the employ of General Motors dealerships -- Culburtson Chevrolet (later Miller Chevrolet), Newport Beach; McLean Motors, Santa Ana; and Money Oldsmobile, Phoenix. He also had two stints owning gas stations with service bays -- a Sacony in Brockton, Mass., and an Atlantic Richfield in Phoenix.

He and his family enjoyed tent camping which evolved into trailer camping. He loved fly fishing for trout and many trips were planned around that activity. He took his family on numerous adventures around the western United States, made two motor trips with them from California back to Massachusetts, and ventured through northwestern states and across the breadth of Canada with his wife.

(He does not claim Lillian as a child of his.)
