Retired PRR Car Builder Dies
Elisha Butler Daugherty of 209 Cherry Avenue, a retired car bulider of the Pennsylvania Railroad company, died at his home last night at 8:40 o'clock after an extended illness. He was 82. Born Sept. 13, 1855, on a farm near Gardener's Mills, he was the son of Hugh and Susan (Smith) Daugherty. Mr. Daugherty was the last of a family of 11 children. He married Lettie Homer Sept. 8, 1887. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last September. They have resided in this city for the past 42 years. Until June 8, 1883, Mr. Daugherty worked on a farm. He entered the service of the Pennsylvania Railroad that year, returning to the farm one year later. In 1887 he reentered the service of the company, working under Foreman Andrew Kipple. He retired Jan. 1, 1927 with a service record of 40 years. Members of the family include his wife, two sons, Edward of York and Roy M. Daugherty of Altoona, two daughters, Mrs. Edna Davis of Harrisburg and Mrs. Sarah E. Tressler of Altoona, 11 grand children and two great-grand-children. Mr. Daugherty was a life-long member of the Methodist Church, holding membership in the Grace Methodist church at the time of his death. The body may be viewed at the Mauk & Yates funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening.
