The following information was provided by Find-A-Grave contributor Searchers of our Past:

His father, Heinrich Rueffer moved to the United States and Texas from Germany in 1892. He came alone. In 1893, he sent his son, August Rueffer a ticket which landed him in Galveston. His son was 16 years old at the time. August Rueffer's first salary was $8 a month. After proving to his boss that he was a good hand, he had a raise to $10 a month. The family stayed in South Texas for many years. The family moved to Haskell County in 1907 and in 1908, moved to the lands north of Haskell where they spent the rest of their lives. August Rueffer spent the first year in a tent with his parents or under the wagon sheets. From his $10 a month, he has grown to a land holder of 10-12 farms located in several West Texas counties. August Rueffer made Haskell County a fine citizen.

August Rueffer, 90, retired Haskell County farmer, had moved to Marble Falls two years ago.

He was born in Hohenwaldau, Germany.

He married Miss Annie Mary Meinhardt on 14 January 1906 at Lexington, Texas. The couple moved to Haskell County in 1907.

Services were held at Trinity Lutheran church.

Survived by two daughters - Mrs. Hugo Hohenberger and Mrs. Raymond Mueller; four sons - Gustaf A., Henry, Oscar and Herbert Rueffer; one brother - Martin G. Rueffer; six sisters - Mrs. Ida Woeful, Mrs. Clara Barchenger, Mrs. Meta Niemtschk, Mrs. Selma Steinfath, Mrs. Emma Pueschel, Mrs. Alma Blair; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
