James Clifton Eldridge, age 79 of Dallas, TX passed away August 04, 2014 after a lengthy battle with complications of diabetes.
James was born January 04, 1935 near Wolfe City, Texas to Will and Lillie (Jacobs) Eldridge. James grew up on a cotton farm in an area of Hunt County known as "Black Cat Thicket." James was the 10th of ten children born to this union.
A gifted athlete, James excelled at football, basketball, and baseball. He was captain of his high football team at Wolfe City High School. Sports remained a big part of James' interests and he followed college and professional sports closely. James was a proud veteran of the US Army.
James owned and operated East Grand Pawn & Jewelry in Dallas for over 40 years. He was affectionately known as "Big E" to his friends, customers, and fellow poker players.
James was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Odell Eldridge, Cleburne Eldridge, Ray Eldridge, Willie Eldridge, sisters, Susie Watson, and Irene Dunn. He is survived by his brothers John Eldridge of Killeen, TX, Billy Eldridge of Wolfe City, TX, Charles Eldridge of Greenville, TX and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services and visitations will be held Saturday August 09, 2014 at Grove Hill Funeral Home 3920 Samuell Blvd., Dallas, TX 75228. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 pm -2:00 pm with the service at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Grove Hill Memorial Park, Dallas, TX.
