Alexander Phannenstiel of Denver, a retired real-estate appraiser, died April 26. He was 89. A service was April 29 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 10, 1905 in Ellis County, Kan.

On May 25, 1931, he married Minna E. Koestel in Hays, Kan.

Phannenstiel attended Fort Hays State Teachers College. He was employed at Prudential Insurance Co. in the farm loan section and at International Harvester. He was a high school teacher. Phannenstiel was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus fourth degree, Serra International, the Appraisal Institute and the Rotary Club in Hays, Kan.

Survivors include two sons, Louis, Greenwood Village, and Rudy, Littleton; two daughters, Annita Watts, Roach, Mo., and Veronica Murphy, Dakota Dunes, S.D.; three brothers, Theodore and Francis, both of Hays, and Edward, Benton, Kan.; three sisters, Audrey, Eleanor Binder and Mildred Walters, all of Hays; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
