Clara Victoria Hardisty was the only daughter of Senator, Hudson Bay Company Chief Factor Richard Charles Hardisty (3 Mar 1831, Fort Mistassini, James Bay, Northwest Territories (Quebec), Canada – 15 Oct 1889, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) and Eliza Victoria McDougall (4 Aug 1849, Cobourg, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada – 30 Oct 1929, Hamilton, Bermuda). Her father was appointed to the Senate of Canada as the first Senator from the District of Alberta on 23 February 1888. Her cousin was Lady Isabella Clarke "Belle” Hardisty Lougheed.
