Metcalf, Sarah (1863 - 1935)

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Schiller Funeral Home for Mrs. Sarah Metcalf, whose death occurred Saturday morning, Rev. G. W. Longenecker conducting the rites. Burial was in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Mrs. Sarah Cornelius Pitcher was born in 1863 at West Bend, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pitcher. In 1880 she was married to James Meyers at West Bend, three daughters being born to this union, Mamie, Mrs. Charles Murrey of Gregory, S. D.; Florence, Mrs. Lester Newman of Fresno, Calif.; and Sadie, Mrs. Henry Herian of Neillsville, Wis. Mrs. Herian is the only surviving child of this marriage. Mr. Meyers died at La Crosse of a heart attack. In 1888 she was married to Andrew Metcalf of Neillsville, two daughters and two sons being born to this marriage, Mrs. Will Jones of Gregory, S. D.; Mrs. John Ableiter of Neillsville, Wis.

Ely of Osseo and Walter, who preceded her in death. Also surviving are Louis Pitcher, a brother, at Merrillan, 29 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Five sisters preceded her in death.

Mrs. Metcalf was a woman of kindly disposition and was ever ready to do all she could for others.

Those from out-of-town who were here for the services were: Charles Murray, Mrs. Add Sloggy, Mrs. Ain Kershaw, and Wm. Murray; all of Portage; Louis Pitcher, Merrillan; Mr. and Mrs. Eli Metcalf, Osseo; Florence Metcalf, Humbird.
