William Griggs Baker's mother was Rebecca Downs (4 Mar 1795 Steuben, Washington, Maine - Steuben, Washington, Maine) the daughter of Benjamin G Downs (1767 – 1840) and Molley Spencer (1755 –).

On 29 Oct 1865 William Griggs Baker married Sylvia Greenwood Hart (1838 – 1892) in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of Norman Hart (1817 – 1838) and Emily Greenwood (1817 –) of Dublin, Cheshire, New Hampshire.

William Griggs Baker and Sylvia Greenwood Hart had four children:


1) Charles W Baker (born 4 Jan 1870 in Steuben, Washington, Maine).

2) Daniel N Baker (born about 1872 in Steuben, Washington, Maine).

3) William Arthur Baker (born 24 Apr 1874 in Steuben, Washington, Maine) who moved to St Louis, Missouri and married May (born around 1889).

4) Winfield Kendall Baker (17 Aug 1881 Steuben, Washington, Maine - 23 Feb 1967 Medford, Middlesex, Massachusetts) married first Addie W, married second Chatherine and married third Etta Lowell (1889 - 1978). He worked for the Boston Edison lighting division in Boston.

After Sylvia's death William married second Santie W (possibly Wiswell) of Ohio born about 1858. She moved back to Ohio after his death.
