John H Baker (23 May 1822 Steuben, Washington, Maine - 1 May 1873 Amesbury, Essex, Massachusetts) was a blacksmith in Steuben, Washington, Maine.

John H Baker 's ancestors originally came from Sissinghurst, Kent, England. During the great migration his forefather Thomas Baker was a founding member of the Roxbury Colony in the early 1600's. In the late 1700's during an ill fated Navel campaign against the British his grandfather and ship's surgeon, Lemuel Baker, left Roxbury and was shipwrecked in Steuben, Washington, Maine where the family remained and where he was born. His pedigree is John H Baker 7 (1822 – 1873), Eli Forbes Baker 6 (1790 – 1855), Lemuel Baker 5 (1742 –), Capt John Baker 4 (1705 – 1781), Thomas Baker 3 (1676 – 1761), John Baker 2 (1644 – 1732), Thomas Baker 1 (1608 – 1683). His lineage traces to Sir John Baker (1488 – 1558), Member of Parliament and Exchequer of England of Sissinghurst, Kent, England according to noted genealogist and expert on the Roxbury Colony Bakers, Elis Baker of New York.

He was the son of Eli Forbes Baker (26 Jan 1790 Roxbury, Essex, Mass - 28 Sep 1855 Steuben, Washington, Maine) and Rebecca Downs (born 4 Mar 1795 Steuben, Washington, Maine).

On 18 Jan 1852 in Lumpkin, Stewart, Georgia, John H Baker married first Mildred Ann Turner (13 Apr 1833 Lumpkin, Stewart, Georgia - 13 Dec 1866 Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts) daughter of James C Turner (born 16 May 1800 Huntsville, Surry, N.C.) and Barbara Price (born about 1805 in N.C. -).

John H Baker and Mildred A Turner (1833 – 1873) had five children:

1) Elizabeth R Baker (10 Oct 1852 Lumpkin, Stewart, Georgia - 04 Feb 1925 Washington, District of Columbia) married Charles H (Palmer) Heath (1847 – 1914), child: Lilian Frances Palmer (1878 – 1964).

2) Georgia Anna Baker (Aug 5 1857 New Haven, New Haven, Conn - 21 Jan 1945 Westville, Rockingham, New Hampshire) married first George Henry Tucker (1855 - 1920) and had five children: Mildred Viola Tucker, Edith Josephen Tucker, Elizabeth P Tucker, Ernest George Tucker and Wendal Laurence Tucker. Georgia Anna Baker married second Charles D Long (1850 - 1933), no children with Charles D Long.

3) John Howard Baker. Jr (15 Aug 1860 Lumpkin, Stewart, Georgia - 23 Nov 1925 Phoenix, Maricopa, Arizona). Enlisted in the U.S Navy at the age of 16 and served as an electrician. Buried in Glendale, CA.

4) William Colin Baker (8 Mar 1863 Lumpkin, Stewart, Georgia - 31 Dec 1920 Amesbury, Essex, Massachusetts) married Lindia Caroline Lambert (1868 – 1946) child: Ruth Lambert (Baker) White (1895 – 1966).

5) Ida Jane Baker (1 Jun 1866 Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts - 9 May 1955 Cahuenga, Los Angeles, California) married Frank Cyrus Smith (1856 – 1939), three children: Clinton Fiske Smith (1887 – 1969), Grace D Smith (1893 – 1958) and Laurice V Smith (abt 1901 –).

On 11 May 1867 in Roxbury, Suffolk, Mass, John H Baker (1822 - 1873) married second Angeline Lovina "Angie" Kidder (1839 – 1929),
