Mrs. Eva Lena Cox, 83, of 2816 N. 74th, Kansas City, Kansas, died Thursday at Bethany Medical Center. She was a life-long area resident. She had been a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. 35 years before she retired in 1953. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Peculiar in Cass County. She leaves her husband, Raymond Cox Sr. of the home; a son, Raymond Cox Jr., 2325 N. 99th, Kansas City, Kansas; two daughters, Mrs. Eva May Charboneau, 3617 N. 107th, and Mrs. Georgia Garrett, 2600 N. 67th, both of Kansas City, Kansas; a brother, Louis Carr, Edwards, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Mary Jane Cox, Kansas City, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Porter Chapel; burial in Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the chapel.
