She was a volunteer nurse during World War II and volunteer with the American Red Cross.
She was awarded a Proclamation of honor by the City of Toledo for her volunteer work during the Toledo fire of June 10, 1961.
She has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Greater Toledo since March 1938 and served as Deaconess. She has also been a member of the Palestine Chapter of Eastern Stars #51 for 63 years and served as Registrar and Flag Bearer.
She served as Treasurer for the Ladies Auxiliary of the United Transportation Union for many years and was a charter member of Women of Military Services along with many other organizations too numerous to mention.
Gladys was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Deck, Jr. and one grandson.
