Victor Sylvester Ashmore Sr. is survived by his wife Julia Belle Bean and a son Sylvester Ashmore Jr. and a daughter Mary Frances Ashmore. Victor served in the US Army in France during WWI. He entered in the Army in 1917 just after the US entered WWI. He was wounded in the Second Battle of the Marne. He returned home in 1919--less two fingers, which were lost to shrapnel.

Victor met his future wife at a political rally in Troy Mississippi. Her name was Julia Belle Bean. According to Victor, "She was quite a vision in her long, white dress and wide-brimmed hat. She was a neat size with black hair and sparkling eyes... I told my friend, who was with me, that was the girl I was going to marry." Victor and Julia were married on April 23, 1920.

Victor was always a hard worker and always felt the importance of education. Three years after his marriage, Victor graduated with a B.S. in Agriculture Education from Mississippi State College in Starkville, Mississippi in 1923. Victor rose from a poor Mississippi farmer to become an educator (Principle and Superintendent), a public servant and held several public offices. He served as FSA County Supervisor for Prentiss County, MS, and he was a land owner and a farmer. Victor always loved farming and tiling the earth. "Of all my occupations, none have given me as much pleasure and contentment as farming...planting, cultivating and harvesting of crops ...This was my real joy."

Victor lived in Booneville, MS for about 10 years where both of his children graduated from High School. Later the family lived in College Hill, which was about six miles north of Oxford, MS (home of the University of Mississippi "Ole Miss"). This is where his daughter Mary Frances Ashmore graduated from Ole Miss with a masters degree in English and French 1950.

Victor lived a full and interesting life. He lived to see both his children marry well and have four grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life.
