Bill Virden completed his journey on earth Feb. 16, 2005, and was welcomed by our Lord to the place prepared for him in heaven. He was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Princeton, MO. His family moved to Kansas City in the forties. He graduated from Westport High School, joined the Navy and served his country in the Phillipine Islands during World War II. Returning from the war he worked for G & S Dist. Co., and Yankee Produce Brokerage Company until he started his own Fruit Vending Company, the Chilled Fresh Fruit Company in 1952. He sold fruit to nearly all schools within a 100 mile radius of Kansas City. Bill was a people person. His close friends were from all walks of life. School Superintendents, principals, cooks, custodians, millionaires and homeless. He brought sunshine into everyones life. As one person recently said, "He makes us feel so special." Bill married Norma Spangler in 1949, and they observed their 50th wedding anniversary five years ago. He served as President of the Indian Heights Athletic Assoc. and Homes Assoc., He also served as President of the Kansas City Chapter of the Model-T Ford Club International, and as Vice President of the Veteran Motor Car Club, K.C. Chapter. He was an active member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Lee's Summit. He leaves his wife Norma, a son and daughter, a granddaughter and grandson, a sister, and five nieces.
