He married Rebecca lnu. and fathered William (b. @1861), George Washington (b. 10/25/62), Simon Ellsworth (b. 04/02/66), and a daughter. In 1860, he was a carpenter living in Dauphin County and stood 5' 8" tall with light hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg August 23, 1864, mustered into federal service there August 26 as a private with Co. H, 201st Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 23, 1865.

In 1890, he lived in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County. He died at his son Simon's home at age 68-7-0, although two obituaries in the Harrisburg Telegraph claim he was seventy-five,
