John Heard came from Aiglish, Tyone County, Ireland to America in 1719 because of intolerable religious persecution. He is supposed to have engaged in an altercation with a member of the established church of Ireland over tithes in which he used a pitchfork on the tithes collector, This was a very serious offense, and as a result of this episode he left Ireland rather hurriedly bringing with him six sons and five daughters, Ieaving the seventh son Stephen the eldest, to settle his affairs.
