Ruth Joanne Ziehr, age 79, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on Aug. 26, 1934 in Hollandale, daughter of Alvin and Nellie (Ayen) Colden.
Ruth was united in marriage to James Ziehr on Nov. 21, 1957 at Hollandale Lutheran Church. She taught in the DeForest School system at Pumpkin Hollow School, retiring in 1992. Ruth was an active member and volunteer of Bethel Lutheran Church for many years. She loved to travel, spent many winters in Florida and Hawaii and especially enjoyed her trip to Norway. Ruth also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events, camping, bowling and spending time with family and friends.
Ruth is survived by her husband, James; children, Lorie (Kevin) Green of Liberty, Mo., Larry Ziehr of Madison, Terry (Dana) Hammer of Novi, Mich. and Gary Ziehr of Lakeville, Minn; grandchildren, Zachary and Hannah Green, Alyssa and Kyle Hammer and Reed and Jordan Ziehr; sisters, Erma Plantikow of Janesville and Doris Plantikow of Hollandale; brother, Robert (Bertha) Colden of Marshall and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Nikki Reed Ziehr; granddaughter, Bethany Lauren Green and brothers-in-law, Ralph Plantikow and Orville Plantikow.
