Michael was the son of Janusz Slifka/Slivka and Ania Konieszkiewicz. They were a family of Polish immigrants who first settled in Lorain, Ohio.

He married Rose Anna Durkalic in Lorain, Ohio on 10 May 1910.

Michael's WWI draft card has his last name as Slivka. Nearest relative listed in Lorain Ohio, Andrew Slivka, his brother

Michael and Rose lived at Lark's Lake, Michigan for many years and are both buried at the St Nicholas Cemetery.
