Russ Akin was born as Charles Russell Akin, and everyone called him Russ. He eventually changed his name to Russell Charles Akin. He married Sue Edna Bailey, and they had five children: Mary Alice "Mamie" Akin, Beatrice Virginia Akin, Frances Elizabeth Akin, and two children who died in childhood, Ollie Wayne Akin and Gladys Emise Akin.
Russ loved his hunting dogs, particularly the registered Beagles he raised. He was a farmer, and during the depression he became a shade tree mechanic for extra work.
He died at the home of his daughter Mary Alice Akin Floyd in Hohenwald, TN.
