Obituary -- The State (Columbia, SC) January 22, 1989: Mrs. Peal Lee Nates - Mrs. Pearl Lee Nates, 82, of 1520 Daulton Road, widow of the Rev. Lonnie Daniel Nates, died Saturday. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Mrs. Mary Alice miles Sharpe. She was a member of the Elgin Church of God and taught the junior Sunday School class for more than 50 years. Surviving are sons, Ervin Nates of Winchester, Va., and Ernest and Herbert Nates, both of Columbia; daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Jordan, Mrs. Evelyn Jordan, Mrs. Nancy Dollar, Mrs. Rickie Roach and Mrs. Marilyn Kown, all of Columbia, Mrs. Ruby Shumpert and Mrs. Joyce Chavis, both of West Columbia, Mrs. Molly Durden of Springfield, Mo., Mrs. Norma Thomas of Lexington and Mrs. Thelma Foxworth of Elgin; brothers Jack Sharpe of Florida and Arthur Sharpe of Columbia; sisters, Mrs. Ruth Kind of West Columbia, Mrs. Susie Bass of Blythewood, Mrs. Sally Jacobs, Mrs. Frances Scott and Mrs. Cheryl Sherman all of Columbia and Mrs. Mary Williams and Mrs. Margaret Sharpe, both of Swansea; and her stepmother, Mrs. Sarah Sharpe of Columbia. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holly Hill Pentecostal Holiness Church. The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Nates of 2419 Alpine Road and will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Talbert-Shives Funeral Home. A viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
