Lonnie Danmile Nates, Sr., Retired Minister Funeral Friday -
The Rev. Lonnie D. Nates, Sr., 59, retired minister, died early Wednesday afternoon at Columbia Hospital. The Rev. Mr. Nates was born in Dentsville, September 20, 1902 and had lived in Columbia all his life. He was the son of Mrs. Geneva Roof Nates of Dentsville and the late T.C. Nates. He was a member of Park Street Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Pearl Sharpe Nates; eight daughters, Mrs. T.L. Jordan, Miss Norma Nates, Miss Joyce Nates, Miss Thelma Nates and Mrs. Arnold Corne, all of Columbia, Mrs. R.C. Shumpert of Kershaw, Mrs. F.D. Jordan of Gaston and Mrs. T.L. Durden of Gloverville; five sons, Ervin D. Nates of Gloverville, Ernest J. Nates, J. Marion Nates, L.D. Nates, Jr. and Herbert Nates, all of Columbia; two sisters, Mrs. Marion Juddy and Mrs. L.T. Shannon all of Columbia; four brothers, J.P. Nates, O.C. Nates, T.M. Nates and Earl Nates, all of Columbia; and 19 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon from Park Street Pentecostal Holliness Church, conducted by the Rev. W.C. Player, assisted by the Rev. M.L. Moore and the Rev. Mr. Jeffcoat. Active pallbearers will be Elize Chavis, Edward Chavis, Benjamin Frye, H.M. Frye, J.C. Atkinson and Harry Atkinson. Honorary pallbearers will be T.D. Palmer, Lonnie Nelson and Deacons of Jackson Creek Baptist Church. The body will remain at Paschal Funeral Home until the hour of service.
