Jo was born December 7, 1914, in Lankin, Walsh, North Dakota, the youngest of five children born to John and Mary Trenda Lapic. After graduating from high school in Lankin, she attended a medical technicians' school in Minneapolis. In 1937, she accepted a position as a medical technician in Rawlins, Wyoming, where she met and married George Edward Nuelsen Hutt. They were married for 59 years before George's death in 1997. Both George and Jo were members of, and active in, the First United Methodist Church of Rawlins.
Jo loved Rawlins and her many friends there, and left it in the year 2000 only after the death of her oldest son, Brian, and her failing health and vision necessitated it. She lived with her son and his wife, John and Marlene, and with her granddaughter, April, before she moved to St. Joseph Villa in 2003. Despite her increasing disabilities, she adjusted to each of her new homes with courage, determination, and a sharp intellect.
Jo is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Schoeffler, of Salt Lake City; sons Larry (Ellen) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and John (Marlene) of McMinnville, Oregon; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and son, she was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, William and Lloyd Lapic; and her two sisters, Mary Lundholm and Anna Smith.
Interment has already occurred at the Rawlins Cemetery, where she is laid to rest beside her husband, George and her son, Brian.
