She was not only a teacher, but also a part-time school counselor and senior adviser. She helped organized the senior prom, wore orange fingernail polish and loved the Tennessee Volunteers, those who knew her said. She gave students advice when they had trouble at home, and teachers often came to her room early in the morning to chat and get coffee. "The first time I met Ms. Masterson was in the ninth grade. I had her for math," one student said. "She got up in front of the class and said, 'I'm a rebel. I wear bright orange fingernail polish.' "She was telling us she was different - not like anyone else." Tami was a special education teacher and counselor for the Crawford County School system. She was a graduate of Mercer University where she received her Masters degree. She was also a member of First Evangelical Church and was a member of the Daughters of the King Sunday School Class. Tami is survived by her children, Maci Masterson and Corey Turner, both of Macon; mother, Marnell G. Stephens of Macon; brother, Chris Stephens (Cindy) of Macon; niece and nephew, Chase and Chelsea Stephens. She was preceded in death by her father Robert L. Stephens.
