October 16, 1932 ~ June 13, 2014
Willie Rhea Cooper passed quietly the evening of June 13, 2014, at her home in East Wenatchee, surrounded by family and friends. Willie was born October 16, 1932, in Violet Hill, AR to Ama "Jo" and Herman Carter. At a young age, the family moved to Plain, WA, where she grew up, attended school and graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1950. Shortly thereafter, she began a long career as a Telephone Operator at Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone. In 1952, she married Harold O'Neal (1930-2001) and then, the following year, her only daughter, Kathleen Ann (Don Files), was born. Her second marriage was to Charles "Denton" Taylor in 1958. Son, David Alan (Colleen), born in 1960, was the apple of his father's eye. Denton passed tragically in May 1963, and son, Charles "Denny" Denton (Juanita) was born the following December. Her final marriage to Arlis Cooper, in 1968, bore two more sons, Michael Gene (Lisa) in 1970, and Timothy Steven in 1971. Upon the closing of the local office of Pacific Northwest Bell, Willie retired for the first time. She then worked at General Telephone, again retiring upon closing of the local office. After suffering a massive stroke in 1998, she led a quiet life in the care of her beloved brother, Thomas Calvin Carter.
Willie is survived by her brother; her children; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; along with her very special and dedicated caregiver, Christian Arroyo. Willie was preceded in death by her parents; half-brother, Cecil; half-sister, Grace; brother, Xenophon; sister, La Wanda; half-brother, Hix; and brother, Eugene.
Many sincere thanks to Wenatchee Hospice and the wonderful nurses who cared for Willie and made it possible for her stay in her home.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Telford's Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee, with Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee, WA.
