Excerpt from Bio sketch of son William McQuillin (1821-1919): "...His father [John McQUILLIN] was Irish but a native of Pennsylvania. His mother [Sarah] was Scotch, a native of Virginia, and a daughter of a wealthy slave owner. The marriage of his parents was an early-day romance, being an elopement. 'My mother's parents objected to her marrying a greasy mechanic and they never forgave her,' the son related in telling his family history. The parents moved [from Somerset Co., Penn.] to Ohio when the son, William, was nine years old and settled in the part of Richland county which was later included in Ashland county..." ----Mansfield News, Mansfield, Ohio 17 Nov 1916, p. 5.

Sarah McQuilling is buried beside her husband in the Synagogue/Church of God Cemetery located in Vermillion Twp., Ashland Co., Ohio
