Former St. Mary's Teacher Succumbs
Louisville, KY
Sister Mary Ellen Flynn, OSU, 83, died Thursday at Humana Suburban Hospital here, where she had been a patient since June 10. She had been in failing health for some time.
Born in Cumberland July 26 1901, she was the daughter of James E. Flynn and Ellen (Behan) Flynn. She attended SS Peter and Paul School and was graduated from Ursuline Academy. She entered the Ursuline Order in Louisville in 1920.
Sister Mary Ellen taught at St. Mary's Catholic School and also at Ursuline Academy in Cumberland. She also taught in Morgantown, WVA, Columbia SC, Pittsburgh, PA, and at other Ursuline schools. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Marian Home, Louisville. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, among them James A Swann, Kathleen Burke, Lillian Porter, all of Cumberland; and Mary Ellen Wolford, Forest Hill, Md.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at the Ursuline Motherhouse in Louisville. Interment will be in St. Michaels Cemetery.
