Journalist. He was born in Linden, Malden, Massachussets. He participated in the First World War, fact that left him a fondly impression. He moved to France where worked as journalist, but suffering from a nervous breakdown, he traveled to Spain and he stablished in Santa Eulàlia, Ibiza. Here, during the Spanish Civil War, he wrote his famous book "The Life and Death of a Spanish Town." Forced to flee Spain, he returned to France, where published one of his more remembered books "The Last Time I Saw Paris." When he returned to the United States after the beginning of World War II, he began to screenwriting in Hollywood, between 1941 and 1953. He contributed in "Rhapsody in Blue", "London Town," "A Woman's Face" and "It's a Pleasure." Other of his books are "Indelible," "I'll Hate Myself in the Morning," "Springtime in Paris" and "That Crazy American Music." He also was a talented pianist. He died in Providence, Rhode Island of a heart attack and was buried with his parents.
