GALVESTON — Clarence Thomas, 73, departed this life on Thursday February 26,1998, at a UTMB hospital in Galveston. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.in. on Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Williams officiating, and the Rev. James Harris Jr. host pastor. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Galveston. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. and a wake service will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday March 8, at the chapel of Fields Funeral Home Inc.
Mr. Thomas was born May 12, 1924, in Grand Prairie, Louisiana. He was a retired truck driver with the city of
Galveston after 25 years of service, and was a member of
Second Christian Church.
Survivors include five sons, Clarence E. Thomas of Texas
City, Texas, Jarvis Thomas of Cleveland, Texas, Kenneth R. Thomas of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Donald W. Thomas of Galveston, and Joseph W. Thomas of Houston; four daughters, Brenda J. Woods, Iris Mitchell, both of Galveston, Doris McKinney of Houston, and Carla Thomas of La Marque, Texas; 22 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Thomas Jr. of LeBeau, Louisiana, and Adam Thomas of New Orleans, Louisiana; sister, Doretha Arthur of Galveston; devoted friend, Abell Butler; a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
