Ethel Helena (Erickson) Christiansen, 103, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the Centra Care Health System in Long Prairie, Minnesota.

Ethel, the youngest of nine children, was born at home June 11, 1910, to Arnt (Andrew) and Helena (Lundquist) Erickson in Reynolds Township, Todd County, Long Prairie, MN. Ethel was baptized and confirmed at the Reynolds Immanuel Lutheran Church. In 1926 she graduated from eighth grade at the District 15 country school. April 14, 1932, Ethel married Frederick Christiansen in Long Prairie, MN. They had three children: Helen, Louella and Ardean.

Ethel loved to cook and bake. She was known for her apple pies and crocheting. In 1965 Ethel moved to Long Prairie and was an employee of Cathedral Press for fourteen years. She had a special way with children and enjoyed babysitting. Ethel was an active member of the Reynolds Immanuel Lutheran and Reynolds Baptist Ladies Aids. She looked forward to Senior Citizens to visit with friends and playing bingo.

Since 2004 Ethel resided at the Centra Care Health System Nursing Home in Long Prairie, MN. Activities kept Ethel on the go. She enjoyed bingo and playing in the 'Happy Gang' band. When in her room she kept busy doing her 'paper work' (Word Search). Her mind was sharp. In 2006 Ethel was voted Valentine Queen at the Nursing Home.

Survivors include her children: Helen (Tom) Differt, Long Prairie, MN, Louella (Edgar) Smith, Moorhead, MN, Ardean (Patricia) Christiansen, Long Prairie, MN; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Elsie Lee, Arthur, Arvid, Helmer, Joseph, Rudolph and two infant sisters.
