The following is an excerpt from his obituary, courtesy of Firtion-Adams Funeral Home, Westfield, Massachusetts:


"ARTHUR W KNAPP 84 of 86 Holyoke Rd Westfield died Saturday in a local nursing home. He was a lifelong resident of Westfield. He was the Chairman of the Board of Westfield Savings Bank from 1979-1992. He started with the bank in 1945 was elected Corporator in 1946, Trustee in 1955, and was President of the bank from 1961-1983. The Westfield Bank Building was dedicated to Mr. Knapp on September 14. 2000. He was a US Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII serving in the European theater. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Westfield and a member of its Finance Committee. He was a member and Past President of the Board of Trustees at Noble Hospital, and he also served on its Building Committee. He was a member and Past President of the Westfield Chamber of Commerce, Westfield Kiwanis Club. and Pine Hill Cemetery Assoc. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Westfield Academy, a Trustee of the Westfield Atheneum, and Honorary Member of the Westfield Rotary Club, former treasurer of the Westfield Fair Assoc. and a Director of Westfield 2000. He was a member of the Springfield Country Club and the Blandford Club, and the Get-Together-Club. He Received an Honorary Degree in Business from Westfield State College and was awarded the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Joint Service Clubs of Westfield he also received the Outstanding Man of the Year Award."


He enlisted for service in the U.S. Army Air Forces on May 20, 1942, in Springfield, Massachusetts.
