A SKETCH written by John Allen Mette

I was born in Edgefield District, South Carolina, October 16, 1864.When I was a boy I went to the Edgefield Academy. When 16 years of age, I lived in Columbia and worked as a printer on the Palmetto Yeoman.

I was a student at the University of South Carolina in the class of'81 - '84

When 21 years of age, I began the practice of law, where I devoted three years to study and forensic training. Since then I have been principal of several high and graded schools and publisher and editor of a weekly newspaper, The voice of Labor, afterwards The Mirror,in Augusta, Ga.

My father, Henry Christian Mette, was a Saxon. He was born in Germany. My mother, Addie Belle Holland, was English and Scotch. She was a native of South Carolina

My wife's maiden name was Cecil Geneva Royal, of English and Scotch ancestry, she is a native of Georgia. We have eight children, four boys and four girls. One of the boys is married and one is dead. Five of the children are going to school, and the baby, two years of age, is a little girl with blue eyes and golden hair.

He is interred next to his wife, Cecil Geneva Royal Mette in family burial plot. Three of their eight children, Albert Blatchford Mette, Victor D. Mette and Norman Royal Mette are also interred in family plot.
