Our wonderful mother Floriene Bendixsen passed away Saturday June 21, 2014. She was born February 24, 1923 in Wellsville, Kansas. Her love of life, positive attitude, quick wit and sense of humor were only a few of her outstanding qualities. She touched so many lives and made so many people happy.

Mom lived the first 14 years of her life in Wellsville, Kansas. Her dad was a farmer and her mom worked at the button factory in town. Mom had one older brother and two younger sisters. She lived down the hill from her grandmother who she adored and every chance she got would run up that hill to be with her. In 1937 she and her family moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. While Mom was in high school she moved to a family friend's house where she babysat two little boys and did some light housework. She really enjoyed living there, the house was like a mansion in her eyes. Mom and Dad met at a dance in 1945 and later married in Las Vegas on October 31, 1946. When asked why Las Vegas she would always say that's where Bill wanted to go. They didn't even know it was Halloween until they walked out of the Judge's house and their car had been soaped. In 1956 they moved to Seattle from Idaho Falls where Bill pursued his furniture profession. In 1957 they moved to Lynnwood where they resided until 1990 when they moved to Mill Creek.

Besides being a loving wife, a great mother, a "Homemaker" (as she called herself), she was also a member of Lambda XI, a world wide philanthropic sorority. For 63 years she remained a member and held every office multiple times. Her sorority sisters became her best friends.

Mom spent lots of time fishing with Dad in Puget Sound, Canada and Alaska. She even helped Dad catch a 228 pound marlin in Hawaii. If she wasn't catching a fish she was driving the boat. She also enjoyed traveling with Dad on business or pleasure trips to Singapore, Hong Kong, The Bahamas, Australia, and around the USA visiting relatives.

Floriene leaves behind her children Paris(Kathy) Bendixsen, Terri (Pat) Thornburgh, and Jill (Miles) Auckland. The light of her life was her grandchildren Tami (Demetri) Marinakis, Mitchell (Tara) Thornburgh, Bradley Thornburgh, Colby Auckland, Shane Auckland, and Blake Auckland and her special great grandchildren Athena Marinakis, Zoe Marinakis and Collin ("little dude") Thornburgh. Her sisters Leonor (Don) and Rosie (Dale).

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill, wonderful granddaughter Kristina and her brother Junior.

Her brother in law, Glen, said it the best, "I have always thought that Floriene had an unusual capacity to appreciate the joys of life and to discount its burdens". That is so our mom!

A Celebration of her life will be held 1:00 Monday June 30, 2014 at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 98036. 425-672-1800. Visitation will be held Sunday June 29, 2014 from noon to 5:00PM.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Floriene's memory to Hospice EvergreenHealth, 12040 NE 128th Street, MS 5, Kirkland, WA 98034.
