Keith Hayward Wessman, known also as "Papa" to many, passed away quietly June 27, 2014, in Henderson, at the age of 89. He was born April 4, 1925, in Ogden, Utah, to Henry R. E. Wessman and H. Jean Hayward Wessman. He was the 11th of 14 children. As a young man, he served in the U.S. Navy in World War II on the USS Haggard. He was the second crew member to sign on to the brand new ship. After the war, Keith served an LDS mission to Minnesota. He then married Lilly Marcella Wilson Sept. 28, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple. They had four children, Keith Jr. "Buddy," Alma Wayne, April Lilly and Georgina Lynn. In 1964, the family moved to Las Vegas and to Henderson in 1970. He has lived and served in this community for over four decades. He will be sorely missed. Keith was preceded in death by his wife, Lilly; two sons; his parents; and 12 brothers and sisters. He is survived by two daughters, April of Henderson, and Georgina of Gig Harbor, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Norinne Husbands. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, in the Cholla Street LDS Chapel, 303 Cholla St., Henderson. Viewing in the chapel at 10 a.m. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, in Boulder City.
