The Armenian population of Amasya was mostly killed or deported during the Armenian Genocide of 1915. Hnazant must have lived through it, while her husband had died by 1918. In 1920 Hnazant was living in the Beshiktash neighborhood of Constantinople, the capital city where many Armenians survivors fled. She sailed to Marseille and then took the ship Roussillon to the port of New York, arriving there on October 24, 1920. Her age on the manifest was 55, which would mean she was born about 1865 though her death certificate says 1857.
She joined her son Sarkis at 718 N. 16th Street in Philadelphia and died five years later of myocarditis.
