She then began a long and successful career in banking, working first for Cape Ann Bank & Trust Company, and later as a vice-president and manager in retail banking for Beverly National Bank, Danversbank and most recently, People's United Bank. She was also a 1998 graduate of the New England School of Banking at Williams College. A devoted wife and mother, she enjoyed homemaking, gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends. As a Massachusetts Justice of the Peace, she became known for the many beautiful customized wedding ceremonies she performed for couples throughout the north shore.
In addition to her husband, Arthur, she is survived by her three children, Arthur T. Bernier III and Lauren Murray Bernier, both of Asheville, NC and Alexander E. Bernier of Denver, CO; her granddaughter, Emma Jaremsek, of Asheville, NC; her brother, Robert A. Murray and his partner, Debra Norton, both of Rockport; her brother, Peter E. Murray, of Rockport; her father-in-law, Arthur T. Bernier, Sr., of Burlington, VT; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Leslie and Michael Leary, of Lexington; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Stephanie and Richard Yirikian, of Winchester; her brother-in-law and sister in-law, Christopher and Karen Bernier, of Essex; her sister-in-law, Helen Chiasson, of Winchester; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Maria Bernier, of Pittsburgh, PA, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Helen M. (Stevens) Bernier and her brother-in-law, Carl Chiasson.
Her funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, at 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Saturday, June 28 at 10 am. Burial will be held in Beech Grove Cemetery, in Rockport, followed by a reception at the Rockport Community House, at 58 Broadway, Rockport. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 27, from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
