Tragically killed along with her husband Wendel while on a helicoptor tour over the copper mines in Bingham Canyon.

Patsy Payne (Wendell Heaton) (Both are deceased.)
Patsy was born 24 Dec. 1939 Salina, Utah, the first child of Lula and Reed Payne of
Glenwood. She was loved by people of all ages and had a well rounded childhood. She liked to
roller skate, swim, play ball, ride horses, dance and helped take dairy animals to the country fairs
to win honors. She filled many offices in high school and worked as a waitress to get through
college at USU and College of Southern Utah (CSU). She graduated from CSU with a B.S.
degree in Elementary Education and a Kindergarten Efficiency Certificate in June Of 1962. She
taught Kindergarten at East Elementary in Cedar City and was later a part time staff member of
the College of Family Life responsible for the nursery school.
At CSU Patsy met Wendel M. Heaton a newly returned missionary. They were married
21 July 1962, Manti Temple. Life was great. They lived in Kanab and had a family of 6 children.
On 15 Nov. 1984 they were killed at Bingham Copper Mine while taking a 1 hour
helicopter ride as a result of a winning ticket at the Farm Bureau Convention in Salt Lake City.
They left 6 orphaned children between the ages of 6 and 18 years. Now 20 years later, all but
one have graduated from college. The two boys have served missions.
