DiMaggio detained
Union City New Jersey, November 4-
Adolfo DiMaggio, 54, was held today for police questioning in connection with the death of a California woman after a drinking party in San Francisco rooming house two months ago.
Chief of Police Harry A. Jenkins of Union City said he was awaiting San Francisco police action in the case. No charges have been made against DiMaggio, he said.
Jenkins said DiMaggio's story of the death of the woman, Thelma Warren, 28 was:
DiMaggio met her in a rooming house on September 4, the day before he was to report for duty with the California State Guard. After a drinking party they retired. But, he awakened about 3 a.m. and went to the washroom. When he returned he tried to awaken the woman but, found her dead. He left the house, reported to the State Guard barracks, obtained an eight hour leave the next day and deserted. He came to his sister's home here Saturday night.
