Amos was born to Walter Scott Bullington and Crissie McCleary Bullington on a farm in Douglas County, MO, near Ava. His father died in about 1907 with TB, and Amos, his brother Bartley Pleasant, his sisters, Alta Mae and Fransina Lucretia were sent to an orphanage called, "The Orphanage of the House of God" in College Mound, Macon Co., MO, where they stayed for several years. Their mother re-married and took the children from the orphanage in 1913.

Amos lied about his age and his birthplace and joined the Canadian Army during WWI using his stepfather's last name, Anderson. Family stories say it was because he was under age and couldn't join the service in the states.

He married Jennie Marie Paden in 1919 and together they raised 7 of their 8 children to adulthood. Children are: Hazel Marie died in infancy, Robert Etysel, Arthur Earl, Lucy Irene, Cheryl Mae, Alta Joyce, Emma Lucretia and Bartley Leon.

He was a Master Carpenter and excellent Body and Fender man and Auto Painter. People used to come for miles around just to have him personally fix their vehicle.

Amos lived in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana. He had to leave school at a young age, but was able to educate himself by reading and studying the Encyclopedia Brittanica and by various correspondence courses he took over the years. He died in 1970 of complications of colon cancer.
