Lucy Irene Stewart, born May 26, 1925 to Amos Bullington & Jennie Marie (Paden) Bullington. Married Paul J. Stewart on Dec 11, 1943 in Perry, OK. Of this marriage were born 4 children: Linda; Neil; Dennis ; and Paula . Irene passed away 12 days after being diagnosed w/CML (chronic myelogenous leukemia), at home on hospice, surrounded by her 3 surviving children (Linda, Neil, & Paula), 3 of her grandchildren (Michael, Michelle, & Jennie), and 2 of her 3 sisters (Cheryl and Emma,). Predeceased by a son, Dennis, in 1969, and a brother, Leon Bullington, in 1973, and a brother, Robert Bullington in 2005. Survived by her husband of nearly 67 years, Paul Stewart of Mulvane, KS, daughter Linda Stewart of Mulvane, KS; son Neil Stewart of Bethany, OK; daughter Paula Fletcher & her husband Dan of Okanogan, WA; a brother Arthur "Ace" Bullington of Sulphur, LA; 3 sisters: Cheryl Parker of Mulvane, KS; Alta Joyce "Jo" Sisson of Whitehouse, TX; and Emma Logsdon of Yukon, OK; 9 grandchildren, & 19 great-grandchildren. Known affectionately by those close to her as "Grams" or "Grams Stewart," Irene was well-known in her community for her tireless giving and doing for others. She and Paul were sojourners with the Churches of Christ Ministry, traveling the country for many years after Paul's retirement in 1987. Literally up until the day she was diagnosed w/CML, Irene wrote letters to inmates, and graded Bible Studies for a prison ministry, helping answer their questions about Jesus & helping them find Him. Her mantra was "pay it forward." She truly practiced what she preached. She was everyone's friend.
NOTE: Cremated, 1/2 of her ashes are buried in Dunlap Cemetery, Butler Co., KS and the other 1/2 in Fletcher Family Cemetery, Okanogan, WA
