She was born September 13, 1945 in Winifrede, West Virginia, to Cecil Akers, Sr. and Virginia (Cantebury) Higginbotham.
On May 11, 2001 she married Gustavo Zamudio in Goshen.
He survives along with four daughters, Mary Faith (Maurice) Coles, Carol Lynn (Benito) Aguilar, both of Goshen, Sabrina (Richard) Hodge, of West Virginia, and Tamara (Martin) McRobie, of Florida; nine grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; a sister, Iris (Elbert) Kemper, of Elkhart; and two brothers, Jerry Akers, of Elkhart, and Paul (Vicki) Akers, of Warsaw.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Betty Mucubbins, and two brothers, Cecil Akers, Jr. and Ronald Akers.
Prior to retirement Gayle had worked at Triangle Rubber, Goshen.
