Wanda Ard Jeppsen, 92, of Rexburg, died Thursday, June 19, 2014 of natural causes. She was born September 2, 1921, in Tetonia, Idaho, to Joseph Napoleon and Myrtle Elizabeth Ard. Wanda had eight wonderful siblings to support her throughout her life. Her sisters are Eva Furniss, Anona Hansen, Nadean Wilding and Nelda Ricks. Her brothers are Donald Ard, Cleon Ard, Doyle Ard and Lysle Ard.
She was the eldest daughter and was invaluable in helping her mother with the younger siblings. She loved working in gardens and helping with the farming in Clementsville near Tetonia in the Green Canyon area. She attended many parties and dances in the area. She was hired by families in the area to help with cooking and cleaning. Wanda enjoyed canning and preserving her own food. She made most of her meals from scratch.
She married Elmo Jeppesen in the Salt Lake City Temple on October 18, 1939. They drove to Utah by themselves, after the harvesting had been completed on the farm, to be sealed in the temple for all eternity.
Elmo farmed and she was by his side every step of the way, cooking for the hired men, driving meals up to the dry farm on the Rexburg Bench, assisting with the farm work, and caring for their five children. She loved her children with all her heart and devoted her time to caring for them. She spent many hours cooking and sewing clothes for them to wear. She was a devoted wife and mother. She cared for Elmo until his death in 1994.
She enjoyed genealogy and spent many hours in the Family History center. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She enjoyed helping the sick and afflicted and served in the Hospice Care Program helping the terminally ill for ten years.
She married Gilbert T. McKinlay on April 15, 2003. They enjoyed going on rides, visiting friends and spending time with family. He died in 2008.
Wanda later became sick and was diagnosed with breast cancer. She lived with her daughter Connie in the home they built together in Hidden Valley subdivision. She had many surgeries and resided with Connie until January 2014. She lived at the Ashton Living Center and then Homestead Assisted Living until her death.
Wanda's family will miss her very much. She was the strength of her family and never missed an opportunity to attend family events and reunions. She was kind and friendly to everyone. Her children, grandchildren, other relatives and friends were her life. She will be missed.
She is survived by her children, Darwin Jeppesen of Ammon, Kyle (Brenda) Jeppesen of Rexburg, Ron (Phyllis) Jeppesen of Rigby, Connie Jeppesen of Rexburg; a daughter-in-law Rita Jeppesen of Rexburg; a step-son Lynn (Betty) McKinlay; siblings Donald Ard, Eva Furniss and Nelda Ricks; 23 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Elmo and Gilbert; son, Gerald Jeppesen and a grandson Kent Jeppesen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, at the Rexburg North Stake Center, 314 East 2nd North, with Bishop Jorge Rodriguez officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Burial will be in the Rexburg Cemetery.
