Former Owatonna Girl Passes Away at Home In Rushford, Minn.
Funeral Was Held on Saturday, Sept. 12th
Mrs. Rockne's Maiden Name Was Ida Anderson – Born in Havana in 1888
Mrs. John B. Rockne, a former Steele county girl, and well known in Owatonna by her maiden name, Ida Anderson, died at her home in Rushford, Minn., on September 12. She was the daughter of the late County Treasurer Iver Anderson and his wife Mrs. Iver Anderson. She was born in Havana township and spent her girlhood days in this city. The Star Republican published at Rushford, Minn., has the following obituary notice of Mrs. Rockne:
Mrs. John B. Rockne passed away at her home at Highland Wednesday morning, Sept. 12, after an extended illness. Her maiden name was Ida Anderson and she was born near Owatonna, September 29, 1888. She was married to Rev. Rockne at the Anderson summer home at Lake Minnetonka, October 4, 1916. The sad separation by death came within a year. Rev. and Mrs. Rockne moved to Highland soon after their marriage, he having charge of the Highland congregation.
Besides her husband she leaves a sorrowing mother, Mrs. Iver Anderson, and two sisters, Mis Martha, and Mr. Helland, the wife of Prof. Helland of Augsburg Seminary.
The funeral took place Saturday, services being held at the Highland church. Rev. Jaastad preached the funeral sermon and Prof. Helland spoke in English. The remains were taken to the Greenfield cemetery near Harmony for interment.
The sorrow stricken husband, and mother and sisters have the deepest sympathy of the people of this community, where Rev. Rockne has served as English pastor for more than two years.
