Patricia Ann "Pat" Jones, 81, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Avera Dougherty Hospice House from complications of asthma and COPD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 17 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Sioux Falls. Visitation begins at 5:00 PM Thursday, May 16 at St. Mary Catholic Church, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and a Liturgical Wake Service begins at 7:00 PM.
Patricia Cunningham was born March 23, 1932 in Montrose, SD to Andrew and Bertha (Olson) Cunningham. She was the second youngest of thirteen children. Patricia moved with her family to Sioux Falls, SD in 1942. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950, and earned her Registered Nursing degree from the McKennan School of Nursing in 1953.
Patricia had a rewarding career as a nurse. She worked for Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Patricia also worked for Dr. Robert VanDemark and Dr. Everett Sanderson in Sioux Falls. The majority of her career was spent at Avera McKennan Hospital, where she worked in several departments, including surgery. At the time of her retirement she was working in neuro-special care.
Patricia was united in marriage with Robert "Bob" Jones on September 3, 1955 at St. Joseph Cathedral. Together they raised their four children, Mary Pat, Barb, Dan, and Kathy. They were married 55 years before Bob passed away in 2010.
Patricia loved to entertain and had impressive cooking skills. Her home was always a warm and welcoming place. She loved to travel and she took numerous trips with her husband, Bob. Of all her interests, she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. .
Patri cia was a member of St. Mary Church and enjoyed playing bridge at Active Generations and with her family and friends.
Grateful for having shared her life are four children, Mary Patricia Jones, Sioux Falls, SD, Barbara Ann Jones and her husband, Raymond Bradbury, Anchorage, AK, Daniel Robert Jones and his wife, JoAnn, Madison, WI, Kathleen Ellen Muller and her husband, Lee, Indianapolis, IN; seven grandchildren, Alison Kulenkamp and her husband, Adam, Lucas Muller and Noah Muller, All of Indianapolis, IN, Bridget Jones and Natalie Jones, both of Altoona, WI, Claire Bradbury and Daniel Bradbury, both of Anchorage, AK; two great-grandchildren, Eli and Fiona Kulenkamp, both of Indianapolis, IN; her brother, Michael Cunningham and his wife, Ila, Sioux Falls, SD; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and 11 siblings, Vincent, Carl, Earl, Louis and John Cunningham, Frances Rothans, Doris Mathison, Agnes Gallagher, Mary Kutil, Catherine Pease and Margaret Beverage.
