Ruth G. "Bootsie" Burkland passed away on June 6, 2014, at the Emmanuel Nursing Center where she had recently been a guest.

She was born on May 14, 1917, in Riverside, a daughter to the late Charles R. and Annie (Cook) Burkland.

Ruth belonged to St. Peter's United Methodist Church in Riverside. She worked as an LPN at the Harrisburg State Hospital before retiring. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!". She was an avid bird watcher. Bootsie also enjoyed tending to her home, where she still resided up until her most recent illness.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers: Walter, Joseph, Harry, John, Albert, Robert, Donald and Rolland Burkland; and sisters: Nora Lynn, Mary Priest and Beatrice Buchhofer. Bootsie was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Bootsie is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at St. Peter's United Methodist Church with her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Donald Hurley, officiating funeral services. A private family burial will follow funeral services. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of funeral services.
