Funeral services for Colonel (Ret.) Virgil K. Meroney, 59, of 3909 S Holly Street, who died June 27 at Herman Hospital at Houston, Texas, were June 30 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son Mortuary. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery with military honors.
The son of the late Virgil K. and Hattie Lindsay Meroney, he was born and reared at Pine Bluff. He attended Pine Bluff schools and graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 31 years, and was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the war in Vietnam.
He was a member of Carr Memorial United Methodist Church and the Confederate Air Force.
He is survived by his wife, the former Louise Duckett, a son Douglas M. Meroney of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Mrs Louise Tiemann of San Antonio, Texas and Mrs Zemma Redman of Pine Bluff; and four grandchildren.
