Lemuel Holton was the younger brother of Samuel Socrates Holton whose family lot is 20 yards away in Lot 324. In 1848 he married Maria Antoinette Brown (1828-1864) of Winchester. She died in Winchester 15 July 1864. In 1866, Holton married Amelia Caroline Smythe (1833-1920).

Lemuel's sister Betsey married Edwin Moody, the father of the noted American evangelist, Dwight L. Moody (1837-1899). It may have been Lemuel whose retail store on Court Street in Boston gave employment to young Moody in the 1850s.
