Harvey Vandiver, aged 58 years, died Sunday, December 22, 1895, of pneumonia. The deceased was a well known and highly respected citizen of this place, having lived here his entire life. He was born in Perry County in 1837. He was mustered into Co. M. 10th Ind., Cav. of the Union army on February 7, 1864 and served with bravery and distinction. No one in his regiment was braver or more heroic. He shared the hardships and suffering of a common soldier and was always ready to respond to duty's call. He was mustered out July 6, 1865. His remains were interred into Fairmont Cemetery Monday morning. The funeral services were conducted under the auspcies of the G.A.R. of which order he was an honored and highly respected member. The old veterans turned out in large numbers to show this last and tribute of respect to their departed comrade. Let us believe that when the soul of Harvey Vandiver took its flight, that he heard the drumbeat and bugle call on that distant short. The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of the whole community.
