Walter Jordan was the 5th child (of 13) born near Indianola IL to Abraham and Lucinda Rebecca Holmes Jordan. He worked as a farm hand, for the C & E I Railroad, and later took care of his aging parents. After contracting TB, he moved to Denver to recuperate at the Woodman Sanitarium. Later he and brother Robert lived on the home place, where he raised truck gardens and did their cooking and canning. Neither had married.
