Brown Conklin Atikinson, who had spent all of his seventy-eight years in Winnebago county and was a veteran of the civil war, died Sunday evening at 5:50 o'clock at his home in Burritt township, after a brief illness of heart trouble.
Mr. Atkinson was born in Harrison township September 30, 1841, a son of John and Nancy Atkinson. He married Miss Maryette Henry of Owen township August 28, 1862, and immediately enlisted in Company A of the 74th Illinois infantry, with which he served through the war of the rebellion.
Mrs. Atkinson died March 6, 1899. Deceased is survived by eight children, David H. Atkinson, of Willard, Kan.; George W. Atkinson, of Howard, Kan.; Frank B. Atkinson, of Peabody, Kan.; Mrs. Clara A Blacklaws, of Rockford; Guy A. Atkinson, of Burritt; Mrs. Eda Blacklaws, of Rockford; Mrs. Ethel Mendon, of Ridott, and Mrs. Evelyn Peterson, of Burritt, and fourteen grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, John M. Atkinson, of 921 North avenue, Rockford, and three sisters, Mrs. Melissa Shields, of Winnebago; Mrs. Eliza Kissick, of Burritt, and Mrs. Kitty Gordon, of Roscoe.
Funeral services will be held at the late residence Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and will be in charge of the Pecatonica post of the G.A.R. of which deceased was a member. Internment will be made in the North Burritt cemetery.
